The Serial Console Port Manager provides 115.2-kbps data throughput and full flow control to handle the higher speeds of faster data-communication equipment. It s perfect for connecting multiple RS-232 devices for on-site and dialup remote access. You can access each port individually by port number or by assigned name, and any port can select any other port. Each port is configurable for data rate, parity, flow control and other parameters.Each port has four modes of operation: Modem Mode, Any-to-Any Mode, Buffer Mode or Passive Mode. Modem Mode is used to manage a high-speed modem connected to the Serial Console Port Manager. It enables the password protection, inactivity time-out and command strings. Plus, Modem Mode protects the switch and network elements from unauthorized access. Any-to-Any Mode uses the full-matrix capability of the switch to connect any port to any other port on the switch. Buffer Mode sets individual ports for the collection and storage of snapshot data, such as alarms or notification messages. Passive Mode causes a port to ignore any commands coming from a connected device, but enables another port to connect to the device via Any-to-Any Mode.
